What I Sell: Artisan breads (multi-grain sourdough, rustic sourdough, olive bread, ciabatta, honey-whole wheat-cinnamon-raisin), bagels, crackers, organic and artisan made teas, and more!
About Me: My name is Derek DeGeer. I am trained as an oil painter (MFA from Boston University). I worked at a NYC mega-gallery for years and moved back to Maine in 2009 to live the simple life. Now I bake, I have a children's music and movement company, I install art, and I paint when I can.
I got into baking through an involvement with the Kneading Conference in Skowhegan Maine several years ago. My interest in baking and my skill were dramatically improved and and I took a friend's suggestion and started the bakery when an opportunity presented itself at a local farmer's market.
Another friend offered me his restaurant kitchen off hours and the business has developed from there. I now take part in 8 farmers markets year round, deliver to my local community market (Rising Tide), bake for CSAs, and bake the basket bread for a local restaurant (The Damariscotta River Grill).
Most recently I have been focusing on my passion for handmade artisan teas and developing a product line to bring to market of a much higher quality than most customers have ever been exposed to. I not only source the teas but also am involved in creating specialty blends, aging pu-erh varieties, and hope to be harvesting herbs for teas and tinctures in 2014.
